Sam M. Kiefer

Sam M. Kiefer grew up at 9000 ft., about 50 miles west of Denver CO. He moved to Kansas in 1985 to attend Fort Scott Community College on a rodeo scholarship and graduated from FSCC 1987. He attended Kansas State University on rodeo scholarship and graduated in 1989. He went to work for Wolf Creek nuclear power plant in spring 1991 and still works there.

Sam is a retired saddle bronc rider who qualified for the Prairie Circuit finals numerous times. He rode bulls, broncs, and roped all through youth rodeo while in high school. He rode bulls and broncs in college and qualified for the college finals two times. He retired on his 40th birthday, which was 06/14/07. (He'll be celebrating his 41st by performing at Echoes of the Trail this year!)

Sam currently enjoys tending grass cattle and riding some colts. He says he writes some poetry and tries to stay involved with the western culture any way possible. Sam calls Lebo, KS home, where he owns a great country place on a dead-end road a mile from his closest neighbor.
