Harold Carpenter

Harold Carpenter was born in rural Chautauqua County, Kansas in 1930 during the Great Depression and the dust bowl. In his early years, he worked on farms and ranches where he picked up trick roping. While he never pursued it professionally, he has enjoyed it as a hobby.

Harold has been writing cowboy poetry for almost 40 years, and was published in The Western Horseman magazine in 1967 and again in 1970. Some of his work is included in Prairie Poetry, Cowboy Verse of Kansas and in the Missouri Cowboy Poetry anthology.

Harold has recited, joked, and done rope tricks at many gatherings in Nebraska, Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas, and Missouri, including several appearances at the National Cowboy Hall of Fame in Oklahoma City and the National Cowboy Symposium in Lubbock, Texas. Also, he has presented programs for various state conventions, and the National Convention of Barbwire Collectors.
