Gail T. Burton

Gail T. Burton

Gail T. Burton up in Temple, a small town near the Southwest corner of Oklahoma. He grew up in a rural area when horses were still in common use. His years of working on surrounding farms and ranches, plus his years of study and observation equip him to write of cowboys and their trials and tribulations. Gail wrote his first poem as a class assignment in 1951 at Oklahoma A&M College.

He is an historical writer and contributor to The Tombstone Epitaph, the National Newspaper of the Old West. Burton has authored four books of poetry: Cowpies & Candle Lights, Charity, and two volumes of The Adventures of Randy Jones & Booger Red, which has appeared in the Epitaph since 1989. His Cowpies & Candle Lights is also on CD and tape.

Since 1994, Gail has participated in cowboy poetry gatherings from Texas to Montana and from California to New York, including Elko. He has impressed crowds at Echoes of the Trail since its beginning. Burton has been described as a gentleman poet with heart, soul, and a funny bone. He lives in Benton, Arkansas.
